Marketing in the Social Age

MRM appointed as an instructor of e-marketing class at International University of Japan this semester. I went there the other day to teach “Buzz and the Role of Social in B2C Marketing”, and “Multi Device Touch-point Marketing”.

One of the topics I talked in the class was “Ambassador Marketing (Brand Advocates)”.

So, what’s “Brand Advocates”? A brand advocate is a person who really likes a brand or product and spreads positive feedback to other people. It’s almost like having a sales force outside of a company.

The important thing is that advocate marketing isn’t about selling to advocates. It’s about selling with advocates. Don’t try to make easy money by selling to them, instead selling with them to increase not only profit but also brand awareness.

There used to be a time that only press received press releases. Press conferences weren’t open for public. Nowadays, a personal media, a blogger like me, could attend those social events and meet developers and makers.

It’s fun to be a part of marketing loop in the social age.
